How to specify a surge protective device for a distribution board

A useful SPD inquiry starts with the installation position, power system, nominal voltage and expected surge duty. For a main incoming board, state whether the design requires a Type 1, Type 2 or combined Type 1+2 device. For downstream boards, include the upstream protection arrangement so the factory can check coordination.

Then specify the electrical data shown on the drawings and labels: number of poles or configuration, Uc, In, Imax or Iimp as applicable, and the required backup protection. Add whether plug-in cartridges, visible status indication and remote signalling contacts are needed. These details are more useful than asking for a generic 40 kA SPD.

For a quotation that can move directly to sampling, send the single-line diagram, target standard or certification, label languages, carton requirements, quantity and destination. NEELE can then match the module and enclosure format, confirm OEM marking requirements, and identify missing data before production.
